First, Marquette has a campus! A real campus, with flowers and grass and more than one building! Who knew. (Well, judging by the number of people sprawled all over the grass, everyone except me.) Thanks to the 80 degree weather, I ventured outside. I found a bench. And I studied. And, I remembered that there are things like wind and sun and the chatter of people who don’t have to worry about how they are possibly going to write an entire brief and an essay and do 70 page outlines for three different classes in the next six weeks. In short, there’s more than driving to school, parking under the building, studying, retrieving my car from under the building, and driving back to my apartment. This one minute exposure of outside air per day thing has got to go.
Second, said campus is quite nice. There’s benches everywhere. There’s tables. There’s nooks. There’s a lot of grassy knolls. And even though I almost face-planted off the stairs in front of the chapel, and even though I had prospective student tours walking by me every five minutes, I think I might venture outside my bubble a few more times. (Though granted, I almost said something when I was gestured at by a tour as one of the “freshmen” that likes to study by the chapel. As a general rule, people that are two years away from being a lawyer get cranky when you refer to them as college freshmen. I’m just saying.)
